1 – ABOUT THE CENSUS OF INDIA:

  • Census:
  • The census provides data on the country’s population’s size, distribution, socioeconomic, demographic, and other characteristics.
  • In 1872, the Census was first conducted by British Viceroy Lord Mayo. It aided in the formulation of new policies and government programs aimed at improving the community’s shortcomings.
  • In 1881, India undertook its first synchronized census. Since then, censuses have been conducted every ten years without fail.
  • Who is in charge of census:
  • The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is in charge of conducting the decennial Census.
  • Following information is collected in the census:

  • Importance in History:
  • The ‘Rig-Veda’ suggests that a population count was kept in India during 800-600 BC.

  • About:
  • The Companies Act of 2013 was used to form the company.
  • Functions:
  • It hears appeals from the following orders:
  • The National Creditors’ Litigation Tribunal (NCLT) was established in 2016 under Section 61 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
  • Sections 202 and 211 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) are used by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India.
  • India’s Competition Commission (CCI).
  • Composition:
  • After consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the President of the Tribunal, as well as the chairperson and judicial members of the Appellate Tribunal, will be chosen.
  • The Tribunal Members and Technical Members will be nominated based on the recommendations of a Selection Committee that includes:
  • Chairman: Chief Justice of India or his nominee.
  • Member: a senior Supreme Court judge or a Chief Justice of the High Court.
  • Member of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ Secretariat.
  • Member of the Ministry of Law and Justice’s Secretary.
  • Member of the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Financial Services Secretary.
  • Eligibility:
  • Chairperson — Must be or have been a Supreme Court judge or the Chief Justice of the High Court.
  • Judicial Member – Is or has been a High Court judge or a judicial member of a tribunal for at least 5 years.
  • Technical member– A person of demonstrated skill, honesty, and standing who has at least 25 years of special knowledge and expertise (in specified areas).
  • Term:
  • The chairperson and members have a 5-year term of office and can be reappointed for another 5-year term.

3 – DETAILS OF THE ASIAN INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT BANK:

Topic – International Relations

  • What exactly is AIIB:
  • The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is an international development bank tasked with improving social and economic results in Asia and beyond.
  • The Bank’s Membership is made up of the parties to the agreement (57 founding members).
  • Beijing is the bank’s headquarters.
  • It first opened its doors in January of 2016.
  • Aim:
  • It seeks to connect people, services, and markets that will influence billions of lives and build a better future by investing in sustainable infrastructure and other productive industries now.
  • Membership:
  • There are now over 100 members.
  • France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom are among the 14 G-20 countries that are members of the AIIB.
  • Right to vote:
  • China is the bank’s largest stakeholder, with 26.61 percent of voting shares, followed by India (7.6%), Russia (6.01%), and Germany (6.01%). (4.2 percent ).
  • Regional members have 75 percent of the Bank’s total voting power.
  • AIIB organs include:
  • Board of Governors: Each member country appoints one Governor and one Alternate Governor to the Board of Governors. Governors and Alternate Governors serve at the discretion of the member who appoints them.
  • Board of Directors: The Bank’s general operations are directed by a non-resident Board of Directors, which exercises all powers given to it by the Board of Governors.
  • The Bank has formed an International Advisory Panel (IAP) to advise the President and Senior Management on the Bank’s strategy and policies, as well as basic operational matters.

4 – ABOUT THE BRAHMOS MISSILE:

Prelims Specific Topic

  • The BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile has successfully tested its propulsion system, airframe, power supply, and other main indigenous components.
  • BRAHMOS is a cooperative venture between India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s National Propulsion Organization (NPOM).
  • The rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva are named Brahmos.
  • It’s a two-stage air-to-surface missile with a range of roughly 300 kilometers (solid propellant engine in first stage, liquid ramjet in second).
  • However, India’s entrance into the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) has increased the BRAHMOS missile’s range to 450-600 kilometers, a little increase above the present MTCR-capped range of 300 kilometers.
  • With a weight of 2.5 tonnes, Brahmos is the largest weapon ever deployed aboard a Su-30 MKI fighter plane.
  • Brahmos is a multiplatform, multi-capability missile that can be launched from land, air, and sea. It has pinpoint accuracy and can be used at any time of day or night, regardless of weather conditions.
  • It works on the “Fire and Forgets” principle, which means it doesn’t need any additional instructions after it’s launched.
  • Brahmos is one of the fastest cruise missiles in service today, with a top speed of Mach 2.8, or three times the speed of sound.

5 – DETAILS OF THE SILVERLINE PROJECT:

  • Background:
  • The Kerala government’s proposed ‘Silver Line’ project has received in-principle permission from the Ministry of Railways.
  • The Project’s Background:
  • It entails the construction of semi-high-speed railways between Kerala’s two corners.
  • It stretches over 532 kilometers.
  • The corridor will be constructed separate from the existing Thiruvananthapuram-Thrissur route.
  • Its goal is to link major cities and districts with semi-high-speed trains that will travel on their own lines.
  • The nodal agency would be the Kerala Rail Development Corporation (K-Rail), a joint venture between the Ministry of Railways and the Kerala government that will carry out projects on a cost-sharing basis.
